You are not a hero. You are not a martyr. Using Gods word to discriminate simply makes you a coward. You are using the Bible to spew hate and intolerance, a book that was written to share love and mercy. The United States was formed as a result of abuse deliver by tyrannical leadership. The Declaration of Independence was penned to deliver a very specific point;

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

The Declaration clearly covers your right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It gives you the right to attend your church, worship your God, work your job, and raise your family. The Constitution that was created as a result of this Declaration is a living, breathing amendable document. It has grown and changed with the times and trials of this country. It has given birth to freedoms that were discussed in these documents, yet not acknowledged at that time.

This Constitution that covers your ability to openly and safely pray to God, gave birth to Women’s Suffrage, Brown Vs. the Board of Education and the Civil Right Act of 1964. This Constitution has delivered justice and freedom to those who because of prejudice and discrimination remained chained and silent long after the institution of this piece of paper.

Kim Davis, I urge you to read up on the subject of discrimination. Take some time and study the subject of American History. A history that is deeply rooted in religious freedom.

The First Amendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

~Kim, the First Amendment does not give you the right to discriminate against someone based on your religious beliefs. It gives you the right to practice your beliefs, not impose them illegally on others.

The Civil Rights Act of 1964: Landmark piece of civil rights legislation in the United States, that outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. It ended unequal application of voter registration requirements and racial segregation in schools, at the workplace and by facilities that served the general public

~Kim, you do not get to choose who is equal and who deserves respect and justice under the law, including individuals who come to the clerk’s office, a government facility that serves the public.

The Fourteenth Amendment: The Equal Protection Clause is part of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. The clause, which took effect in 1868, provides that no state shall deny to any person within its jurisdiction “the equal protection of the laws.”

~Kim, You do not get to use your position as a clerk to discriminate against anyone seeking anything that they legally have the right to obtain, including a marriage license.

Obergefell v. Hodges: Landmark United States Supreme Court case in which the Court held in a 5–4 decision that the fundamental right to marry is guaranteed to same-sex couples by both the Due Process Clause and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.

~Kim, it is over. The law is in the books. The Supreme court has upheld the verdict and your discrimination will not prevail.

So while you sit in that jail cell, I ask you to think. Think about your words, your actions, and your inability to obey the law. Sit and think about how your God would feel about the hate, judgment, and discrimination that you have passed on people who clearly have the legal right to marry. Perhaps next time you are required to issue a marriage license, you should hold your objections, and instead invite them to church. Perhaps offer some love on their wedding day, in lieu of hate.

  1. First and foremost, NO she is not a hero, and is either is Caitlyn Jenner but funny how Jenner is celebrated as one.

    2nd of all the writer keeps quoting man’s law, man’s law doesn’t mean diddily squat, wonder why our world is a sespool ? Keep following man’s law.

    3rd. IF you believe in something, hold fast to it, don’t cave to those around you who will call you bigot or racist.

    4. I’d rather stand with God and have the world judge me, then stand with the world and have God judge me.

    I love everyone, including my gay neighbors but acting out homosexual desires is wrong, I follow God’s law. Nothing wrong with loving someone of the same sex, acting out the sexual part with someone of the same sex is.

    I love those who want to pretend to be a different person than they were born including my sister who wants to be a boy ( for attention because she has always loved being a girl )

    I love those who lie cheat and steal, is it right no but God will sort that out.

    I love those people who every week I will go to the store and buy their families food when they say they have none but in their homes they have more gadgets than I, or they post on fb that same very night how they are living the life and going to the movies and out to dinner after I just spent 100.00 on their groceries.

    I love you all but I will not stand against my God, or the true HERO, THE ONLY HERO to ever live, my savior Jesus

      There are plenty of quotes and books of the Bible that discuss not passing judgement and how God feels about discrimination. I believe in God and I uphold the law. You are free to have your opinions, just as I am mine. I believe in tolerance, respect, love, caring, forgiveness, and obeying the law. Thank you for your comments.

    • The Constitution guarantees you can speak out of both sides of your mouth, placing conditions upon love while using your Bible as an excuse to do so. It also guarantees I don’t have to follow a mythical law based upon a book and an imaginary man in the sky calling the shots.

      Further if you do want to quote Scripture your Jesus also separated church from government – Mark 12:17 and in Matthew 7 it tells you YOU do NOT call the shots. So perhaps if you believe in God, you let the guy do his job and sort it out. Not your job. Not your place. Even your Bible says so.

      So go on believing what you wish in your personal life, in your home and in your church. Luckily we have a Constitution that protects us and other people who just want a basic civil right from having to be persecuted because we follow the First Amendment – oh and the Fourteenth, too.

  2. Her lawyer actually compared her to Martin Luther King…I can’t even believe it. You want your right to refuse service? Own your own business. You work for the government, you uphold the laws it enacts.

  3. I love this post! I do believe the most important message in the bible is love one another. With all the talk about man’s law vs God’s law, maybe she should have just considered another job?? Most of us have to do what is required at our jobs or we would be fired.

    Romans 13:1-14 covers how Christians are to follow the laws of the land that they live in. My favorite of these are the first two. Every person is subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God and those which exist are established by God. Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves.

    So basically, by refusing to follow the laws of the land in which she live, she has welcomed the condemnation of the God she professes to worship.

    My concern is what do her attorneys expect to gain from this? And is she or any of her family actually reading, understaning, acknowledging anyone else’s point of view? Is she so isolated / insulated within her own community of followers that they now have no room for dialogue or mutual understanding? Is she even hearing that her own Bible condemns her actions?
    I know these kinds of churches. They are so insular that they really don’t let anyone else have any impact on their ideas – anyone that disagrees is outside of the faith and so can be disregarded while they rest secure in their own place in heaven. Thinking outside the church isn’t an option. My grandfather was a paster in a very conservative faith but even he said some of these ‘fringe’ deonominations were a lost cause to logic. God gave us the Bible as his Word to guide but also our brains to think; they are not in conflict. People should use both. Davis’ brand of faith clearly doesn’t.
    In the meantime, she’s distorting her own cause. As a gay Christian (NOT an oxymoron), I do believe there are times to take a stand and make choices based on your faith. Pick one of those – the right of a nurse not to participate in assisted suicide, the right of a church to insure or not insure some medical procedures for their employees, the right of a Christian business to cater to a specific clientelle, the right of a private school to establishe parameters for their teachers – all complex issues of the intersection between faith and the public. But in this case – a law to let us get married and share the same public rights as everyone else? Not the same. Law is law. Public is public and private is private. Stand for your right to maintain your Private institutions’ practices if you have to. I can always choose not to participate in your private institution but we have to live in the same public space and under the same law. In the legal, public arena, denying others a right you yourself enjoy isn’t an issue of faith; it’s the very definition of selfishness.
